Bringing A Revolution, Twice

To many of us, reading business success stories reminds us about inspiration, motivation, and change.
Well today Amazon launched the kindle 2, and I must say that I found myself fascinated. Not by the device itself but by the impact and revolution Amazon is bringing to the business world (again).
In an December 2008 article by Xconomy [article link], early Amazon investor Nick Hanauer gave some insights into what he views as breakthrough business ideas:
“Is this thing in some way 10 times better than the existing alternative?” he said. “No breakthrough idea has ever delivered less.”
This is exactly what Amazon.com achieved. It revolutionized the book buying experience. It provided the customer with over 100 times the selection. This was not a small idea, not an incremental improvement over existing book buying experience; no, it was a revolution.
Additionally it let the customer shop at home, providing valuable user-generated reviews and easy ordering/payment.
And now today with the launch of the Kindle 2 … they are looking to change the landscape completely again.
This e-book reader is a e-Library. At the thickness of a pencil and just over 10 oz of weight, this little gadget is poised to be a second revolution.
Over 230,000 books plus U.S. and international newspapers, magazines, and blogs currently in the palm of your hand in 60 seconds! Carry not 1 book, but your entire library (it carries over 1,500 books)
This is not a incremental improvement or small idea. It is a breakthrough idea, it is a revolution.
